Description

Print it... stick it... comprehend it! These are printable sticky notes reading comprehension questions to check if students understand. {34 sticky note templates to print} This is one of my personal all time top 5 things I have made as far as usefulness and the purpose it will serve on an almost daily basis. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Today, it's all about 'close' reading, using complex text, becoming familiar with that complex text, talking to the text, etc. One way to tell if your students are understanding... aka.... comprehending what they are reading is to have them do the 'talking' to the text part on a sticky note.

Sometimes when I give kids a blank sticky note, I walk around and they don't have anything on the note. I find that I really like it better when we are all looking for the same idea or working to answer the same question. This can allow for better discuss it in class. Plus, if the question or idea is printed on the sticky note, the child that typically doesn't write anything down is realizing that they have a direct question that they are not answering, and they better work to answer it.

These sticky notes can be used for books or passages, and I especially like to use them with my Scholastic News Magazines.

A fun thing to do once you have discussed the sticky notes as a class is to take the article you have read and post it on a bulletin board or outside your classroom and then mount all of the colored sticky notes around the article. People will love to stop and check out the thinking that your kids are doing while they are reading texts.

If you have quiet reading time as a literacy center, you could also have them fill out a sticky note as part of this center.

Specific directions for printing are included. Remember, sticky notes come in all kinds of cool colors.... hot pink, lime green, sherbert orange, bright yellow, and more. Get each child to bring in a pack and you will be set. You will need the standard size sticky notes that fit the template included.

Enjoy!
