It's a giant 50 states United States word search puzzle worksheet, or I like to call it a "Supersized Search". Size things up a bit with this fun 50 States themed word search. It’s a little more challenging or difficult than some of my other word search puzzles due to the number of words. It has a whopping 50 vocabulary words! It's a sizable word search that's fun. Your students are sure to enjoy reviewing the 50 states!! If your students are like mine, they love word searches. And, what better way to get your kids thinking about the USA than an entire list of all states.
If you already use my popular word search puzzles, please note that this is a new format. The puzzle itself takes up one page. That page also has a themed image students can color. The word list prints three to a page. Students will need the puzzle page and a word strip. The list includes all 50 states.
Word List Option - In addition to using the list of states for the puzzle, it can also be glued into their writing journal to use for additional activities, such as writing sentences, paragraphs, or just keeping in the journal to trigger future writing ideas.
Keep the challenge level in mind if choosing this word search for 3rd graders. Some younger kids may find the number of words difficult. Most will definitely find the challenge fun. Especially if you hype it up :-) In this 50 states word search, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonally. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions. Plus, there are 50 words, that's a challenge in itself.
I typically use word search puzzles to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work to go along with a holiday theme or topic we are studying in class. They are perfect for an extra sub activity, too.
