    Description

This 8th-grade math bundle for the Geometry unit includes 18 resources that will help ensure that you and your students achieve success with the Pythagorean Theorem, volume, and, triangle and parallel lines angles! Students will be finding the volume of cylinders, the volume of cones, and the volume of spheres. Included are the Pythagorean converse, Pythagorean theorem word problems, distance on a coordinate plane, and 3D applications. Students will solve problems that involve angle relationships created by parallel lines and transversals to set up equations, solve for n, and find the value of the angle measures. Students will also have to identify corresponding angles and alternate interior angles. Students will practice solving questions about the angle sum and exterior angles of triangles, and set up multi-step algebraic equations to find the missing angles. Students will practice with skill-based problems, real-world application questions, and error analysis to support higher-level thinking skills.

Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles. For example, arrange three copies of the same triangle so that the sum of the three angles appears to form a line, and give an argument in terms of transversals why this is so.
Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse.
Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and mathematical problems in two and three dimensions.
Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.
Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
