    Day 2: Overview of West African Trading Kingdoms (Ghana, Mali, Songhai) Pair/Share lesson + homework

    Day 3: Kingdom of Ghana (stations and student choice)

    Day 4: Mali and Mansa Musa (primary source analysis)

    Day 5: Timbuktu (scaffolded, interactive lesson)

    Day 6: Songhai (Group work discussion lesson)

    Day 7: Songhai, important people (pair lesson)

    Day 8: Benin (scripted Press conference simulation) + homework

    Day 9: Review: Summary reading and artifact analysis OR board game activity)

    Day 10: Exam: Multiple-choice & Document-based questions short response

    => Lesson plans and answer keys are provided.

    Each lesson includes slides to walk you through the lesson, print and digital handouts, a lesson plan, and an answer key. Do Nows and Exits are included for each day.

    Who is this resource NOT appropriate for?

    This lesson is probably too difficult for elementary students and may be too easy for AP-level 11th-12th graders. The modified version would work for 6th and 7th graders.
