Description
This bundle will help you launch your Advanced Placement Language and Composition Course (APLAC) / (AP LANG). Here are brief descriptions for each of the products you will receive in this bundle:
1) Example APLAC Syllabus - This syllabus will give you an idea how to phrase course objectives connecting to language and persuasion. The syllabus will also give you a full sequence of potential units for a culturally-responsive APLAC course.
2) Diction and Syntax Lesson - This lesson (Google Doc. Agenda and Google Slide Deck) contains a complete set of learning activities to teach diction and syntax (as a course building block for the start of the year).
3) Diction and Syntax Handout - This handout can serve as either a reinforcement for any diction and syntax lesson or a preparation resource for the AP Exam.
4) Pathos, Ethos, Logos, and Kairos Lesson - You can use this lesson (and accompanying resources) during any unit on rhetorical analysis skills.
5) Argument Structures and Line of Reasoning Lesson - This lesson (Google Doc. Agenda, Graphic Organizer, and Google Slide Deck) goes over different argument structures and pushes students to create a crescendo-type structure in their line of reasoning (for any essay).
6) Advanced Essay Grading Rubric - You can use this rubric in addition to the actual argument essay rubric for the AP Exam if you desire to challenge students to write more advanced essays (above and beyond what is required on the AP Exam).
7) Fun AP Lang Assignment - Copy a Great Writer's Style - This is a creative writing assignment on style that reinforces many of the above skills. You can use it as a filler-lesson (when you need a break from teaching) and/or as part of a longer unit.
Ultimately, this bundle will give you many frameworks and entry-points for creating a meaningful APLAC course (and not just one geared towards test-prep).
8) Active versus Passive Voice Lesson - This lesson (with an array of writing-based learning activities) will help students switch from passive to active voice. It's a great skill to help students writer more concisely and eloquently.
APLAC is a great course. I loved teaching it, and I hope you do/will too!
