Description
QUICK SUMMARY
All in a Rainforest Day eBook uses factual text and authentic photographs to show plants and animals of the rainforest throughout a day from morning to night. The book includes an option to hear the author reading the text on each page. It was created from a published and well-reviewed print book (see reviews below, including from NSTA).
Beyond a reading of the book, use of the included resources allows the book to be used as a week-long life science mini-unit. Topics covered include rainforest biodiversity, adaptation, ecosystems, and passage of time throughout a day.
This professionally-published picture book by author Ellen B. Senisi and photographer Thomas Marent contains stunning photographs and simple, age-appropriate text. There are 1-2 sentences per page. Students have rich opportunities to connect visuals to concepts. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.7 Use the illustrations and details in a text to describe its key ideas.).
The back page features a list of brief details about each page so key information can be identified. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.5 Know and use various text features (e.g., headings, tables of contents, glossaries, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text.)
GRADE LEVELS AND TIMING
This title is most appropriate for grades K and 1 but may also be used for pre-K or grade 2 students, especially challenged readers and students with special needs. A reading of the book and completion of all or most of the suggested follow up resources will likely take one week. This recommendation is based on an estimate of 20-30 minutes per lesson for grades K-2.

TECH INFORMATION - PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING
EPUBS CAN BE READ ON FREE EBOOK READERS; BUT NOT ALL OF THEM
This product will NOT work with all eBook applications. There are too many to test and many come with embedded spam and/or are unable to be deleted from your device if they don't work and you want to get rid of them. However, my tests showed consistently reliable results for Adobe Digital Editions. It is spam-free and can be used on Mac or Windows. Download for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
— If you are using a Mac device, you can read it right now in iBooks, which is pre-loaded on Mac devices 2013 or later.
— Your school system may not allow downloads without requesting permission from tech staff. Adobe Digital Editions is a trusted resource and you should not have a problem getting it approved.
— Tech staff should be asked to allow downloads for students as well as teachers if teachers want students to view the videos on their devices.
— Sounds like a spot of bother, huh? Perhaps, but the benefits of interactive media are well worth it. PDFs have limited interactive options - and they can be inconsistent and buggy.

Examples of patterns could include that animals need to take in food but plants do not; the different kinds of food needed by different types of animals; the requirement of plants to have light; and, that all living things need water.
Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity 2-LS4-1
Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. Emphasis is on the diversity of living things in each of a variety of different habitats. Assessment does not include specific animal and plant names in specific habitats.

ALL IN A RAINFOREST DAY REVIEWS AND DISTINCTIONS
All in a Rainforest Day was shortlisted for a 2015 Revere Award (Association of American Publishers)
Extracted from National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) review:
“All in a Rainforest Day by Ellen B. Senisi is joyful with photos that capture the glamor of rainforests . . . I read the book to a group of youngsters ranging in age from six to eleven, part of a Co–op. They sat rapt! . . . This book is an excellent introduction to rainforest organisms. Children will want to learn more. . . “
Extracted from School Library Connection review:
“High interest, lower level text, makes this accessible to readers of all ages. This book is a good choice for teachers to use during a shared reading experience and to launch a rainforest unit of study.”
Extracted from Kirkus Reviews:
“The word-to-photo ratio makes this an excellent book to share in front of a class, and confident emergent readers will enjoy tackling the new words with only a little help. . . . A big win for classroom use or individual research thanks to its captivating photos and smooth introductions of new concepts.”
