This Alphabet Book is designed to spark students' interest in reading, writing, research, and art through the engaging process of creating their very own alphabet book. Suitable for a wide range of subjects, from fiction to nonfiction, math to science, social studies, and English Language Arts, this unit offers a versatile approach to learning.


This unit is organized into two scaffolded student packets, ensuring a structured yet flexible learning experience. Scaffolding means the content, materials, and tasks are sequenced to build students' understanding step by step. Each term and concept is clearly defined for easy navigation through the unit at each student's individual pace.


First Packet - Drafting Essentials:

  • A cover page.
  • A KWHL chart to guide initial research and learning.
  • A detailed bibliography guide, complete with examples for reference.
  • Draft bibliography pages for citing sources.
  • Alphabet note-taking pages from A to Z for organizing research.
  • A text features chart to enhance writing and illustrating skills.

Second Packet - Publishing:


  • A cover page for the finished alphabet book.
  • Alphabet pages from A to Z for the final book.
  • A final draft bibliography template to cite sources accurately.
