What educators are saying

We loved this resource as a way to explore the often overlooked heroes of the war. Because my students are older, this was a good way to kick off the unit/topic before digging deeper with higher-level activities. Thanks!
This was a great way to introduce students to heroes of the American Revolution. It told stories that they have never heard of before and it led to great conversation.

Description

In this American Revolution Heroes activity, students learn about the experiences of 10 women and African-Americans who were essential to the American Revolution and to American History. Often forgotten, women and African Americans played essential roles in helping the 13 Colonies gain independence. Students will navigate the room to investigate the achievements and heroism of 10 Americans whom everyone should learn about, including James Forten, Salem Poor, Phillis Wheatley, the First Rhode Island Regiment, James Lafayette, Crispus Attucks, Mercy Otis Warren, Abigail Adams, Deborah Sampson, and Anna Smith Strong. Included is an engaging organizer where students match images, then summarize each person's contributions.
