Description

“Miss Minto’s Musical Moments”

Over the past year during lockdown I’ve created 200 “Musical Moments” which I’ve made available to all schools nationwide here in the UK. I’m pleased to say they have been very popular with many thousands of downloads! They consist of 200 resources, each of which consists of links to brilliant YouTube videos on lots of different topics such as animals, countries, beatboxing, self esteem, history, Westerns and so many more. Lots of background information on the various topics is also provided. I am sending all 200 “Musical Moments” entirely free of charge on purchase of any one of my 29 song packs. Simply let me know which song pack you have purchased and send me your email address to donnajminto@gmail.com. The download link for “Musical Moments” will be sent to you as soon as possible.

Here are two examples of the Musical Moments:

Children love learning about Ancient Egypt! From the mysteries of the pyramids, the grossness of mummification and Tutankhamun’s curse what’s not to like?!!

I’ve written ten songs on Ancient Egypt which I do hope will appeal to your pupils. They can be integrated into any unit you may be teaching on the theme or as a contribution to a music course. They have also been used successfully in school assemblies.

From the gory details about mummification in “Mummies” to the technicalities of controlling the flooding of “The Nile”, there is a wealth of information contained in these songs. The pupils will learn about the “Gods and Goddesses” of Ancient Egypt. They will discover the intricacies of the beautiful hieroglyphic writing in “Hieroglyphics” and of course we cannot leave out the boy-Pharaoh Tutankhamun, whose story is told in two songs, the “spooky”(!) “Curse of Tutankhamun” and the more light-hearted “Hootin’, Tootin’ Tutankhamun”. “Building A Pyramid”, “Mighty Pyramid”, “The Sphinx” and “Toys And Games” round up this whistle-stop tour of Ancient Egypt!

The song pack contains sheet music, lyrics and helpful teacher’s notes. The notes provide practical advice as to the teaching of the songs.

Samples of all my "Ancient Egypt" songs can be found at: https://www.notablesongs.co.uk/product/ancient-egypt-song-pack/ (though the complete “Hootin’, Rootin’ Tutankhamun” is available free from my store).

So the complete set of 10 “Ancient Egypt” songs consists of:

* 20 mp3 files, with both vocal and piano backing tracks
* PDF of the music and lyrics
* a separate Word document of the lyrics

* Teachers’ notes to assist with the delivery of the songs

* Two illustrated PowerPoint presentations of all the songs containing all the lyrics on screen. One has both versions of the audio embedded (see illustrations). The other has the stave notation. If you are one of the growing number of teachers who has access to a digital projector you will find this to be a terrific resource.

The songs are:

1. “The Nile”

Some Geography here, with details of the famous river. It contains Herodotus’s statement, “Egypt is the gift of the Nile” and there are references to nileometers, the fertility the river brought and also to the Aswan Dam.

2. “Mummies”

The gory details of mummification! (Not too gory!!)

3. “Mighty Pyramid”

This song provides a description of the purpose of the pyramids, the resting place of the Pharaohs.

4. “Hootin’, Rootin’ Tutankhamun”

This is a lively song about the boy Pharaoh in the form of a Hoe Down!

5. “Hieroglyphics”

This song provides interesting information in a fun way about the famous Egyptian writing. It mentions Champollion and the Rosetta Stone.

6. “The Curse of Tutankhamun”

This song has an appropriately spooky tune and begins with the words: “What could be worse than an ancient curse?....”. Lord Caernarvon’s untimely death is dealt with! (Though the song goes on to make it clear that actually most people present at the opening of the tomb went on to live into old age!!).

7. “Building a Pyramid”

We now know that the pyramids were built, not by slaves, but chiefly by paid workers who lived in nearby dwellings and that is the perspective this song adopts. Check out this fascinating article from the Harvard Magazine: http://harvardmagazine.com/2003/07/who-built-the-pyramids-html

8. “The Sphinx”

A song about this most mysterious of ancient monuments.

9. “Toys and Games”

A song about some of the most popular games in ancient Egypt, such as senet, snake and the wonderfully named “Khuzza Lawizza” aka leap frog!

10. “Gods and goddesses”

No set of songs about Ancient Egypt would be complete without reference to the Egyptian gods of long ago! The song refers to Thoth, Khepri and Sekhmet among others.
