Description
I use this project as an engaging activity at the beginning of the school year. It serves as a fantastic icebreaker to get to know my students better.
Additionally, you can choose to teach concepts like latitude/longitude lines and the compass rose separately and encourage students to incorporate these elements into their maps. I usually use this project as a culminating activity at the end of my first unit on maps.
The project involves students identifying seven special things about themselves, such as their favorite band, food, or memory. They then use these seven special things to create a personalized island with landmarks representing each item (e.g., a Britney Spears concert hall or a spaghetti waterfall).
Within this Google folder, you will find all the necessary resources:
- Map Project Requirements
- Space for Brainstorming
- Sentence Stems
- Samples of student artwork
- Student Self Questionnaire
The materials in the Google folder are completely editable, allowing you to customize them according to your classroom needs.
