The first day is filled with fun and excitement, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. Amidst the getting to know you games and community building activities, I set aside about 45 minutes for students to write me a letter about themselves, their attitude toward school, and their hopes and fears for the year ahead.Many students find it easier to express themselves through writing, especially with a new teacher they don’t know well yet!I give students a first day letter from me for them to read to get to know me as a teacher better. I have included my example, but you may want to write your own to match your teaching style. However, you are welcome to use mine (or parts of it) if you wish. Then, they write back to me following the direction sheet checklist. I hope this helps you get to know your new kiddos!
