Bar Graph: Birthday Activity

It's a birthday bar graph activity. This is just a fun way to review or introduce a basic bar graph. Give the students a class list to check names off of as they walk around the room and ask each person when their birthday is. Next, have the students individually add the information to the graph (if this is a review) or complete it together as a class. Students will also add all labels to the bar graph and come up with an appropriate scale. Top the activity off with some small cupcakes, and the class is sure to have had a fun interactive bar graph lesson! On the second page the students look at the sales of birthday cupcakes over a one-week period. They fill in a frequency chart, as well as a cumulative frequency chart. Questions are then given. There is a section with four vocabulary words related to graphing, as well as questions dealing with how to figure out the interval on a graph scale.
