What educators are saying

I LOVE using this for science. Kids have so much fun during the activity. I do not get to use it as much anymore now that we have science curriculum but I would love to squeeze it back into our science lessons because kids truly learn from it.

Description

Do you want a fun and engaging way for students to try out different bird beak adaptations? This upper elementary science activity gives your students the opportunity to experiment with different tools resembling birds’ beaks.

This hands on science lab is perfect for 4th grade, 5th grade, or 6th grade. During this activity, students will visit different food stations and try out various tools simulating some of the more common bird beaks. I bought a lot of my tools from Dollar Tree since I only needed a few for the different stations. If you can't get some of the tools, feel free to change the lab handouts to what you have access to.

This resource is completely editable in PowerPoint, except the clip art, which gives you the opportunity to personalize the tools (beaks) and foods to fit your students’ needs.

Included in This Resource:

☀ Detailed instructions on how to prepare the activity before hand (including pictures) as well as instructions on how to present and lead students through the activity

☀ Student recording sheet & student observation sheet

☀ Letter to parents of students with allergies (since foods will be involved)

Note: None of the clip art is editable per the clip artists’ terms of use. Only the text is editable.
