Description
This novel study contains 14 pages of questions (60 questions in total) organised by chapter (most chapters have 5 questions, though some shorter chapters have been combined with 6-8 questions for the 2 chapters) plus 15 final activities to do at the end of the story. The questions ALL involve higher order thinking, and most questions involve multiple parts. All questions are purposeful- none are there to just fill time!!
The questions are based on Bloom's Taxonomy, First Steps Reading Strategies, CARS and The Williams Model. Each individual question indicates what skill/concept is being assessed/practised- super handy for the teacher!!
Concepts and skills covered are:
Author’s Purpose
Word Choice
Compare and contrast
Predict
Understanding Figurative language (similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration)
Analyse
Evaluate
Create
Grammar- Parts of a sentence
(verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs)
Understanding Inference
Provocative Question
Adjustment to Development
Understanding creative people and processes
Tolerance for Ambiguity
Analogy
Attribute Listing
Examples of Change
The 15 final activities involve the skills/concepts: Creative Reading & Writing Skills, Visualisation, Intuitive Expression, Evaluate, Analyse, Create, Synthesise, Connecting to Text, Prediction, Visualisation Skills, Creating Mental Images
I do not include spaces for answers, as this allows you to differentiate... you might expect a 1 sentence answer from your lowest group of students, and a whole essay on the same question from your top group of students, including evidence/quotes from the text. It gives you the flexibility to use the questions how you choose. In fact, it also allows you to designate (or let the students choose) which questions are answered by which students.
NOTE: I have a wide range of HIGHER ORDER THINKING novel studies for sale- check out all my titles at my store! They are my best-sellers, as I believe they genuinely fill a need in the market- I actually began making them because I couldn't find anything like them already on the market. I got sick of having to use literature studies that involved really basic types of questioning, and just didn't challenge or extend students' thinking and understanding at all. These novel studies take me a lot of time and careful thought to create- you are truly getting a lot of value for money! I hope you find them as helpful and enjoyable to use as my previous customers have!
