Description

Branches of Government: Studying US government in social studies? More specifically, are you studying the duties and responsibilities of the 3 branches of government? Maybe you are introducing them or needing a review. If so, your students will enjoy this fun "Branches of Government" word search!! If your students are like mine, they love these.

This is also a fun activity to use on Constitution Day when talking about balance of power.

In this Branches of Government themed puzzle, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonal. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions, and the content may be more suitable for upper elementary.

I use word searches to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work. They are also great to glue in writing notebooks for future writing topics. Perfect for a sub, too. Have your students further explain the duties and responsibilities in a writing activity during social studies. Maybe they could illustrate some. Use it as a guide to have them share what they have learned about each branches' duties, or how these duties and responsibilities help to keep balance. How about homework or even to trigger their memory before state testing or a unit test. Use this Branches of Government word search however you would like in your classroom.

For this puzzle, the information is broken into 3 parts for the 3 branches of government. Under each branch, duties and responsibilities are given. Within those, specific words or phrases are underlined, and those are the words students will find in the puzzle. For example, one duty of the executive branch is to grant pardons. The word 'pardons' is underlined, and that is the word students will find in the puzzle.
