Bridge to Terabithia Novel Study

Looking for a book that your 5th, 6th or 7th grade students will love, but is still rigorous and deep enough for good classroom discussions? Bridge to Terabithia is a great place to start.

In this novel study you will find chapter quizzes for each of the 13 chapters in the novel. Each chapter (1-13) has a quiz with a combination of multiple choice and open-ended questions. Multiple choice questions are tightly aligned with ELA Common Core State standards and released standardized testing.

Below you will see a list of all the chapters and the number of questions for each chapter:

Chapter quizzes focus on figurative language, vocabulary, cause/effect, inferencing, drawing conclusions, and other important ELA skills.

Also, in this novel study you will find a section of "Talk About it" Discussion Questions. These questions were designed for small groups of students to monitor their comprehension of the chapter as they read together and also to allow you, the teacher, to assess what they do and do not understand.

"Talk About it" Discussion Questions are included for the following chapters: 3, 4 (Parts I and II), 5, 6, 7 (Parts I and II), 8, 9, and 10.
**We chose to divide chapters 4 and 7 into two parts for our students.

Questions for all of the chapter quizzes and the discussion questions are aligned to the following 5th grade ELA Common Core State Standards:
RL.5.1 Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
RL.5.2 Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.
RL.5.3 Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., how characters interact).
RL.5.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language such as metaphors and similes.
RL.5.5 Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem.
RL.5.6 Describe how a narrator’s or speaker’s point of view influences how events are described.
