Compare and Contrast the British Military and the Continental Army: A Close Reading Passage for UPPER ELEMENTARY - This single passage pack is about the strengths and weaknesses of the British and Americans as they fought in the American Revolution. It was written with 4th graders in mind, but it can easily be used with fifth grade and beyond.

The passage is sized for interactive notebooks. They print 2 on a page and can easily be glued in a social studies notebook. Even if you don't use interactive notebooks, you can still use these passages. The passages will just be a half sheet size, but you won't glue them in a notebook. :-)

The push today in the elementary classroom is to teach kids the skills of close reading; focus on and analyze a shorter passage and hold the details of the passage under a microscope to really examine it.
