I included two copies of the word search puzzle. One has a title "Christmas" and the other says "December". The puzzle and answer key are the same, just the title is different.
NOTE- please see the word list below. It does contain words like 'snow', so if you live in Australia it may not work for you.
Keep the challenge level in mind if choosing this for 3rd graders. In this Christmas word search, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonal. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions.
I use word search puzzles to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work to go along with a holiday theme or topic we are studying in class. They are also great to use for writing. You could have students practice writing using some of the words from the word search and when they are finished, they get to complete the puzzle. Have them write sentences or a short Christmas themed story.
Of course you don't have to do the writing part, you could simply use it for the puzzle.
