What educators are saying

This is an amazing resource and my students really enjoyed learning about all the different versions of Cinderella. The prep is very easy and we all enjoyed it!
I loved the differentiation in this product! Each Cinderella story had a variety of activities/resources with it, there were blank ones, and a list of additional Cinderella stories outside of the product for extra support/more resources.

Description

Teach students to compare and contrast and hone reading comprehension skills with Cinderella fairy tales! I’ve included activities for the Cinderella stories Cinderella, Cendrillon, The Irish Cinderlad, The Egyptian Cinderella, The Korean Cinderella, and The Rough-Face Girl in order to expose students to fairy tales from a variety of continents.

Blank pages are included for many of the activities, so you are free to add in or substitute your own favorite versions as well.

To start off the unit, I introduce the fairy tale genre with the fairy tale elements poster provided. Building on their prior knowledge, we discuss how fairy tales are a “special kind of folktale”. During our folktale unit, we have already talked about the oral tradition and how stories change over time. I explain that Cinderella stories are an amazing example because there are thousands of different versions that are the same in some ways but very different in others.

I've included a Cinderella Tales from Around the World student booklet, which students can use to take notes about each Cinderella tale after reading. As they complete a page for each story, they will identify the country and continent the story is from, characters, and unique elements, and also write a brief summary. This makes a great assessment tool or student portfolio piece once completed.

In addition, you’ll find each of the following activities included for each of the six Cinderella stories:

  • story vocabulary page
  • 12 comprehension question strips with recording sheets
  • character trait maps
  • writing prompts

Several activities are also provided to be used with any text or a combination of the texts mentioned above. These include:

  • elements of fairy tales chart
  • Venn diagrams for comparing stories
  • compare and contrast story writing prompts
  • Venn diagrams comparing characters
  • compare and contrast character writing prompts
  • favorite Cinderella tale opinion writing prompt
  • planning pages and stationery for writing Cinderella tales
  • open-ended questions for discussion to wrap up the unit

I’ve also included a few literacy centers I use as independent centers to hone my students’ skills through the unit. These include:

  • Cinderella Synonyms (synonym matching)
  • Magical Verbs (irregular past tense verbs)
  • Creative Castle (expanding sentences)

UPDATE: TPT Easel versions of student booklet, writing prompts, character trait maps, planning pages, writing stationery, and Venn diagrams are now included.

Please note that texts are not included and must be purchased separately.

Please download the preview for a closer look at all that is included!
