Constitution Day Activity Poster : Doodle Style Writing Organizer 4th 5th

Constitution Day: This poster activity is titled "Hooray for Constitution Day", and it was created to be used with students in the US on the days surrounding September 17th.

Did you know it is a national law that you as a teacher are supposed to recognize Constitution Day in your classroom? The act states,"all publicly funded educational institutions provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on that day."

Let your students share what they know about the Constitution using this 8.5 x 11 poster. This poster will look great hanging outside your classroom and parents will enjoy reading them when they are sent home.

The Constitution Day activity has plenty of places for students to add their own creative touches with color.

Below I will explain the different sections on the poster. You may need to provide other resources for students to read and fill in the information, or you can simply use the poster for a class discussion and go over each part as a class. The students will then fill it in as you go over it. Maybe you even have a good video that would provide the information. Most information can even be found in a social studies book.

• Fill in the blanks using the word bank. The words to be filled in are: James Madison, Articles of Confederation, Philadelphia, Law, September

• The preamble is printed on the page. The students read it and then answer the question: Who do you think 'We the People" is referring to? You can use this opportunity to discuss the vocabulary in the preamble.

• A basic explanation is given to tell what the Bill of Rights is. The first amendment rights are listed, and the question is posed: Which of those rights is most important to you, and why?

• If you could step back in time and ask a framer of the Constitution a question, what would it be?

• What kinds of rights would you include in a classroom Bill of Rights?

• The constitution provides a separation of power between the 3 branches of government. What are the 3 branches, and what is their main job?

• What problems might arise in our country if we had no laws?
