Description

This Powerpoint lesson teaches the conversion of a repeating decimal into a fraction through step-by-step demonstration. The lesson consists of:

• review of vocabulary - rational and irrational number, terminating and repeating decimal

• review - converting a fraction to a decimal and converting a terminating decimal to a fraction

• step-wise lesson on converting a repeating decimal (one repeating digit), with some fun encouragement mixed in

• conversion of repeating decimal (with two repeating digits) into a fraction

• conversion of a repeating decimal (greater than one) to a mixed number

• nine practice problems, included in the powerpoint presentation as well as on a printable worksheet; answer key provided

• a challenge question on one of the steps of the process – you might pose this question before the students begin working independently on the assignment, or have the students write an explanation along with the assigned problems.
