    Description

    Help your students become more creative writers and to better understand grammar skills by using this "Teaching Writing and Grammar with Mentor Sentences" (bundle) creative writing exercise pack. It's all in adding details! With this pack, you focus on single sentences. When I say mentor, I mean they are "teaching" sentences. They are not from a text or book. They are simple grammatically correct sentences that need more. This is a creative writing activity that helps students take bland sentences to more vivid sentences.

    =====================

    NOTE: When I refer to these sentences as mentor sentences, the sentences do not come from published books. They are simply sentences to learn from. Mentor meaning to teach us. They are basic sentences that are written correctly, but they need more. Therefore, we take an acceptable sentence and perfect them to make them more creative. We turn bland writing into creative writing!

    ==========================

    You will see that they have a high rating and great customer satisfaction. They can be used as a whole class, literacy centers, and more. Use them in your classroom however you would like.

    This pack comes with over 100 bright and colorful slides that will help your kids learn the importance of adding details to sentences. It will help them turn bland and boring sentences into sentences that create images for the reader.

    By using these cards, the skills they learn carry over to their everyday writing in all of the different genres of writing. My students in the past have LOVED doing them. They love elaborating on their sentences and turning them into paragraphs and even stories.

    In addition to improving writing skills, there is also a focus on grammar. I have provided a complete set of questions (at the end of each pack) you can use as a guide when discussing these cards.

    You will work with students on doing things like breaking the sentences into subject and predicate, taking nouns and turning them into pronouns, and the list goes on and on. It is the perfect way to review grammar when you are short on time!!

    Each card/slide is colorful and has a picture related to the sentence. On the cards, there are arrows pointing to where an adjective can be inserted onto the card. Students will also learn through your direction that they can add other details such as who, what, where, when, why, and how to some sentences. Each card allows for an opportunity to discuss the importance of using details in writing.

    These cards can be used as a center activity or you can use them whole group as a daily/weekly mini lesson. There are so many ways to elaborate with one sentence, that you could spend a week on one card if you wanted. There are lots of ways you can use these cards, so be creative.

    Your students will love adding their creative touch to these sentences, and it will be fun to see all of the different versions your class can come up with to turn a bland sentence into a colorful one. My students have turned it into a competition to see who can be the most creative with the same starting sentence.

    Have fun!!
