Description
This set of standards-based lessons focuses on plot elements, characterization, conflict, and theme. Within each focus area, there are pages for use with students that are "approaching standard" and "on standard."
There are additional pages for students who have mastered the standard and are ready to level up that focus on the coming of age genre and a paired non-fiction text (TED talk). Check out the preview for examples.
My goal in teaching with films is to give students an understanding of literary devices and themes through a very short and engaging shared text; an understanding that they can then apply to more complex written texts. Teaching with short films is a great way to engage struggling readers and English language learners, giving them a scaffold that enables them to actively participate in discussions with peers about literary terms.
The teacher's guide includes detailed instructions for differentiating the lessons.
The video, "La Luna," is not included.
