What educators are saying

This was a great way to see visually how a food web works. The students loved being able to hold the string and see how each chain works together to create a food web. Hands on is always the best.

Turn your classroom into a giant food web and then follow through with a digital or printable drawing of the same food web. Drag and drop food chains and then play a food chain matching card sort game. Play a dice roll game where man-made or natural events determine the biodiversity changes in the savanna food web. Create a STEM Rube Goldberg machine to show the transfer of energy through food chains. Have the students relax and color with coloring pages as they discuss the plants and animals of the savanna. A bonus activity is included where the students design an animal that fits into a savanna food web using the 5E model.

    NGSSMS-LS2-2
Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems. Emphasis is on predicting consistent patterns of interactions in different ecosystems in terms of the relationships among and between organisms and abiotic components of ecosystems. Examples of types of interactions could include competitive, predatory, and mutually beneficial.
    NGSS5-LS2-1
Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment. Emphasis is on the idea that matter that is not food (air, water, decomposed materials in soil) is changed by plants into matter that is food. Examples of systems could include organisms, ecosystems, and the Earth. Assessment does not include molecular explanations.
