Description
This is a math mini unit which includes a variety of interactive activities that focus on fair share and an introduction to fractions. They are all digital and perfect to use during distance/emergency remote learning. This pack is a Google Slides™ resource that can support your students with distance learning classrooms (i.e. Google Classroom™).
Here's what is included:
- Anchor charts (What is a fraction?, Fair Share, Halves, Thirds, Fourths, What is a Remainder?)
- Are These Halves? -> look closely at the picture, decide if it is split into halves and move the checkmark/"X" to answer yes or no
- Making Halves -> drag the line to show how to split the object into 2 halves
- Fair Share -> drag and drop the objects to split them equally (between 2, 3, and 4)
- Is It a Fair Share? -> look closely at the picture (divided up like a fraction), decide if it is a fair share or not and move the thumbs up/down to answer
- Sort It Out -> drag and drop the food items (that are divided into parts) into the categories "Fair Share" or "Not a Fair Share"
- Sharing with Remainders -> drag and drop the objects to split them equally (between 2, 3, and 4), then count how many remain and type answer in box
- Fractions (Thirds) -> look at the picture, identify which fraction best represents it
- Make It! (Thirds) -> drag and drop the moveable fraction pieces to fill the fraction according to the question
- Fractions (Fourths) -> look at the picture, identify which fraction best represents it
- Make It! (Fourths) -> drag and drop the moveable fraction pieces to fill the fraction according to the question
- Solving Word Problems -> drag and drop the moveable pieces to help you answer the questions
- Split the Remainders -> drag and drop the objects to split them equally (between 2, 3, and 4), then use the line to split the remainder(s)
What do students have to do? (You can delete the slides you do not wish to use)
- read instruction/definition slide
- complete interactive activities
TIP: I like to make additional copies of this product, delete the slides I do not want (perhaps to focus only on one section at a time or to eliminate easy/difficult slides), and share with my class digitally.
How to implement this assignment via Google Classroom™ to your students ->
· simply make a copy of the Google Slides™ link found in this resource and save the link on your Google Drive™ (remember what you call it!)
· share the file with your students (be sure to change sharing to "make a copy for each student")
