Description

Find the factor pairs of the given number, and then mark out the number that is not a factor of the given whole number: Use this factor activity for distance learning or print for use in the classroom. This math activity is to be used for a quick check for understanding. It is a one-page activity with ten problems. There is a Google Slide® digital version, which is perfect for distance learning, as well as a pdf version that can be printed.

**What are the student directions for the activity?** Look at each whole number and the numbers listed after it. All numbers listed are factors of the number except one. Put an X on the number that is not a factor.

A whole number is listed and all of its factors are listed after it in random order (they are mixed up). There is one additional number that doesn't belong. Students find the number that is not a factor and X it out.

Students will be identifying the factors for these ten numbers: 8, 12, 14, 18, 20, 24, 36, 40, 50, and 72

Why just one page with 10 problems? It is intended to be a quick check for basic understanding of concepts. In addition, I have found that when using Google Slides® in Google Classroom®, the slides can be quite time consuming to grade when each slide presents one problem and you have to scroll through ten slides for ten problems and then do that for 25 kids. I decided to put ten problems on one page for easier grading. I have also found that for distance learning, I need to be able to tell if kids understand the basic concept, which means keeping the activity 'simple' and to the point.

What formats are included?

  • A digital version is included that is a one-page Google Slide® with ten problems. Students drag an X to mark out the number that is not a factor of the given number. This will work great for use in Google Classroom.® You are given a link within the pdf file where you are directed on how to make a copy of the slide. It will then be saved into your Google Drive®. You will make a copy for each student, so they can submit their own answers. The digital version is perfect for distance learning or for a small group math center activity within the classroom.

  • The same activity is included as a printable pdf. Students will simply use a pencil or crayon to mark out the factor that doesn't belong. This version is perfect to use for a math center or for a quick formative assessment for understanding. The actual activity on the file is color, but you can set your printer to print black and white to save ink. Then when you turn in your copies for your class they will be printed in black and white.

Can this be used for a grade? I include ten problems on this activity, so I feel it is suitable for a grade. It's a perfect 'easy' grade to check for basic understanding of the concept. I have included an answer key for the teacher. The Google Slide answers, as well as the answer key use color coding which makes for easy grading. Because all problems are presented on one Google Slide, it takes limited time to grade, which is a huge plus!
