Description

Practicing reader’s theater scripts is a fun way to build reading fluency! This activity practice becomes interdisciplinary combining reading fluency, vocabulary, and public speaking. A Halloween Mystery reader's theater script has a chorus, so your entire class can participate or you could assign it to a small group.

Included:

• A 4 page reader’s theater script written with 2nd – 4th grade in mind

• Character name tags for the students to wear while reading

Teaching Tips:

• Begin by familiarizing the group with the characters & unknown vocabulary.

• To build fluency speed, have students pre-read their scripts silently several times. (To build fluency with improved expression, begin to practice out loud.)

• I like to divide my class into groups and give each group a play to practice. After much practice, they then perform it for the class.

• This is a GREAT fall activity!!

• Reader’s theater can be made into a costumed, staged performance or kept simple with students sitting on chairs in front of the class. Do what works best for your schedule!
