Readers' theater is a terrific teaching tool for developing students' reading fluency. The script is suitable for a group of 5-9 readers and takes about 7 minutes to perform. It is written for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

The readers' theater script also includes a list of “Watch-out words!” This feature highlights challenging words students may need help with as they practice. These words also make terrific candidates for classroom vocabulary instruction.

Additionally, the script contains numerous bracketed prompts—hints like [excited] or [proudly]—that help guide students’ expression as they practice and perform.
