Whether it is a strategy, such as questioning the text or simply reminding kids to use their background knowledge, so much of what good readers do applies to most anything we read in the classroom.

There are many uses for this reading resource.
I designed this little guided reading ring flip booklet for me to use in my guided reading sessions. It is a very easy ring booklet that I thought would be easy to flip through to trigger topics for me to discuss with the kids. I may just hit on a few of the topics in a guided reading session, but the repetition of discussing the topics over and over during many guided reading sessions helps them remember the skills and strategies for when they are reading independently.
You can also make several copies of this booklet and have the kids look up certain topics. For example, you could tell them to go to the strategy section and tell you all of the skills good readers might do 'before they read the text', or you may have them flip through the genre section and determine what genre their guided reading book is. The scenarios are endless.
Sometimes parents are at a loss for how to help their kids with reading, so this would be a great booklet for you to make for a struggling reader. Send it home and the parents can have it available during reading sessions at home.
