Description
In this Thanksgiving history lesson activity, students complete three hands-on activities to learn about the history and origins of the Thanksgiving holiday. Students complete a focused reading assignment that introduces readers to the origins of this holiday, what it was like, and the major participants in the first Thanksgiving celebration. In this first activity, students are introduced to the role of Native Americans like Squanto, the Pilgrims, William Bradford, and the experiences of this first holiday!
To assess this activity, students complete a "Texting a Pilgrim" worksheet where they ask William Bradford three questions in text language, then provide a response that he would have given based on analysis of the text!
Then, students investigate a "Thanksgiving Facts" worksheet to familiarize themselves further with this holiday!
Students then take their knowledge and put it on display by completing a "News Cast" assignment where they, in the shoes of journalists, compile a report that explains the origins of this day! A close-reading crossword puzzle activity is also included to engage all students at any part in this activity!
This holiday lesson is included in the 14-lesson Holiday Collection, located here! This pack includes lessons on Johnny Appleseed, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, President's Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Saint Patrick's Day (St Patrick's Day), Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, Kwanzaa, and New Year's Day!
Enjoy these 14 hands-on activities at one great price!
