INEQUALITIES in TWO VARIABLES - word problems
- PDF
Description
TWO VARIABLE INEQUALITIES is a set of worksheets for working with two variable inequalities presented in “real world” context. This activity helps students see that the solution of a linear inequality in two variables like Ax + By = C is an ordered pair (x, y) that produces a true statement when the values of x and y are substituted into the inequality.
Six problems with multiple skills; three multiple choice and three student response.
The skills include:
Identify graphs that represent the relationship between two variable quantities.
Write an inequality to represent a given relationship.
Graph an inequality in two variables
Identify solutions of an inequality in two variables
Use the worksheets as stand-alone assignments or part of a lesson to introduce the concept. They can also be used as part of a substitute or review packet after the concepts have been taught.
WHY I USE THIS ASSIGNMENT - My students have encountered problems such as these on assessments and their inability to answer these questions reveals the need for more practice with the topic. These worksheets have provided the extra practice to increase the success rate on benchmarks and other assessments.
Solutions are included.
