Intro to Anxiety & Nervous System Regulation
- PDF
Description
Write that study that you needed. I am curious as to what my last 5 years would have looked like had I been equipped with a foundation like this in my teen years. While many of my “Intro to” series are topics I’m curious to learn more about, this study comes from a place of spending years researching, learning about, and implementing practices to heal a dysregulated nervous system. It’s a broad and deep topic but I’ve done my best to distill what I’ve learned into a study that provides a solid foundation of knowledge with very practical tools and practices that anyone can utilize.
In this 100+ page study geared for ages 12-16 you’ll find 18 lessons + a final project. Using it 3x a week would take approximately 7 weeks.
Each lesson consists of a reading, a relevant and engaging activity, a mindfulness journal page and most often a “quotable colouring page”. The readings are factual and concise and there are lots of fun activities sprinkled in to keep the mood light!
Topics include:
- The Nervous System (SNS & PNS)
- Fight, Flight or Freeze
- The Stress Response Cycle
- What is Anxiety
- The Anxiety Paradox
- Physical Expressions of Anxiety
- Worry & Intrusive Thoughts
- Panic Attacks
- Breathwork
- Nature Benefits
- Buffers and Boundaries
- Outside Your Head (Sharing and Journaling)
- Exercise
- Sleep
- The Vagus Nerve
- Nutritional Supports
- Affirmations
- Final Project
I believe the concepts in this study are ones that every single person should know whether or not they would identify anxiety as a factor in their life. At some point, we all go through challenges and face stressors that can tax our nervous system. Knowing how to regulate and understand our physiological cycles is crucial in maintaining holistic health and also preventing anxiety from becoming a life interfering experience.
