In the Discovery Organizer, students are introduced to logical fallacies backwards. Instead of giving definitions and examples, the graphic organizer offers labels and examples, and students develop definitions from the traits they perceive in the examples.
In the Identification Practice, students are given at least one obvious and at least one subtle example of twelve fallacies, and they are asked to identify and explain each.
Suggestions for Use
◈Use the Discovery Organizer to introduce fallacies in class.
◈Use the Discovery Organizer as a flipped classroom assignment.
◈Use the Identification Practice as a formative assessment, bell ringers, summative test questions, sub work, or guided practice.
◈With the Identification Practice, have students group them together as related fallacies.
◈Treat the Identification Practice as a choice board and allow students to choose five that they are sure of and defend their answers.
◈Use either exercise as a learning station.
◈Use the "Windshield Bugs" exercise as a transition tool, summarizer, or ticket out the door.
◈Assign homebound or remote students either exericise as Google Slides.
