Description

There are 15 Bingo Boards and 54 illustrated word cards in this pack. The words used include a range of words for phonemic development of long and short vowel sounds with recognition of letter patterns (e.g., cap/cape, lick/like). This is an upgraded product that facilitates the transition from short vowel patterns, i.e., cap, to the long vowel sound in cape, an important step in reading progress. The PREVIEW includes a list of the words used. I have also included my four Magic e posters for extra scaffolding.

In my intervention I find confusion of short and long vowel sounds is common. I rectify this with explicit teaching and games. I have expanded and upgraded this game to 15 boards for general classroom use. If you pair students, you can cater for up to 30 players. Each player brings small objects to the game to save you finding counters. Mixing ability groups means differentiating and using the vowel posters will support students who need even more.

I have added a DONKEY Card Game because it is the most popular game I use and it is so flexible, it can be used for explicit teaching as a component of intervention. You can use the pairs to play other games like Memory or Fish. It contributes to phonemic awareness through rhyme. There are 26 rhyming pairs and the DONKEY card, 53 cards in total, but you can use less and it doesn't affect the game. I have used the following pairs:

CVC: pan/man/can/van, pill/fill, fin/win/pin/bin/fin/tin, back/tack, wag/tag, cap/tap, cub/tub, rob/sob, mop/hop, rip/pip

CVCe: pane/mane/vane/cane, pile/file, wine/fine/pine/line/mine/dine, bake/take, cape/tape, cube/tube, robe/globe, mope/hope, ripe/pipe, frame/blame

This is so much more fun than a worksheet and once you print, laminate and box you have a resource that will last for years. These games may interest you as well:

TIC TAC TOE - This game uses onsets and rimes to target blending.

WORD DETECTIVE - This game is easier than Bingo with only 6 words per board.

I have a Magic e Games Bundle if you are interested in variety or my Activity Bundle that includes worksheets and hands-on activities as well.
