Martin Luther King Jr. Quotable Task Cards and Essay {CC Aligned}

11 Common Core Aligned Task Cards are included in this packet.

Students will work to read Dr. King's "I have a dream speech" as a class, while answering a task question which goes along with the reading.

Students can then either work together or with a buddy to complete up to 10 other task cards which each include a quote by Dr. King. Each one of the cards gives students a task to complete on the back of the card. The tasks may be writing, drawing a picture, or both.

This acitivity can be used in guided reading, small group reading, centers, or as a whole class activity. Students will need to analyze each of the quotes and pick apart the true meaning of Dr. King's words, which will challenge students immensely.

An essay prompt is also included at the end of this packet. Students will need to use the information they have learned, as well as the quotes to write an essay describing King and his true value to American history.
