Description
Students need a variety of experiences with word problems to master these text-rich questions. Missing addend word problems differ from transition “Find the sum/difference” word problems as 1 part and the whole are known. Students are then asked to find the missing part. Unlike traditional word problems, missing-addend problems are not easily solved with a picture. .
Solving these problems, students develop a deeper understanding of addition and subtraction and learn to analyze and solve real-world situations. These types of problems promote logical reasoning and prepares students for two-step word problems they will see in 2nd grade.
