    Mary Poppins Returns follows the lives of the grown-up Banks children and the troubles they are facing during the Great Slump in England. Mary Poppins befriends Michael Banks' children and your typically Mary Poppins hi-jinx ensue. The film is full of new songs that will have you singing along and/or ready to dance! The film stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Angela Lansbury, and Dick Van Dyke.

    Christopher Robin

    This Christopher Robin film is a sweet retelling of the friendship between Winnie the Pooh and a grown Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, and Tigger help Christopher Robin in finding joy again in his life.

    The Grinch

    Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas takes on a whole new form in Illumination's 2018 production of The Grinch. The story follows the tale of the sad green guy who lives atop Mount Crumpit. This version takes on its own spin as we learn of the Grinch being an orphan and getting glimpses of loneliness throughout his life. After a little help from his his longtime friend Max and a few new friends (Cindy Lou/Fred), the Grinch learns that love and kindness are two things we need the most. This film would be great to use before Christmas break. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Pharrell Williams, Rashida Jones, Kenan Thompson, Angela Lansbury, and Cameron Seely.

    Peter Rabbit

    Peter Rabbit is the 2018 adaptation of Beatrix Potter's famous work. The lovable and mischievous Peter Rabbit is up to his usual hi-jinx when it comes to his neighbor's garden. The film stars Rose Byrne as Bea (Beatrix Potter) and James Corden as Peter Rabbit. The film also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sia, Sam Neill, Margot Robbie, Daisy Ridley, Colin Moody, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. This film would be a fun addition before Easter or after studying Potter's work.

    The Greatest Showman

    This is a wonderful movie that celebrates our unique qualities and talents. It looks at the story of P.T. Barnum, played by Hugh Jackman, and his early days of the circus. This would be a great film to use for an end of the year film or when helping students celebrate how we are all created differently and with our own talents. The movie also stars Zac Efron, Zendaya, Keala Settle, and Michelle Williams.

    The worksheet contains 40 movie questions and I have included an answer key for your convenience. This movie is rated PG for thematic elements including a brawl.

    A Wrinkle in Time

    This 2018 movie is based off of the 1962 novel by Madeleine L'Engle. The star-studded cast includes Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Michael Peña, and Chris Pine. A young girl, Meg, is still struggling with the disappearance of her scientist father. Meg's brother and friend join her on the search for him while also receiving help from Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who. The movie is visually astounding with amazing costumes and colorful sets.

    Hocus Pocus

    This movie follows the tale of three Salem witches, the Sanderson Sisters, who have returned on Halloween night after 300 year. This fun classic stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson Sisters. This movie would be fun to use during the Halloween season.

Please note- Around 43 minutes the film uses the word “damn” multiple times. It is used another time 79 minutes in and 84 minutes in they say “Go to Hell”. They also say virgin a good bit. I just wanted to give fair warning in case you are using this with younger children. it would be easy to mute these words during the film.

    The Man Who Invented Christmas

    This true story examines Charles Dickens' journey and experiences that led to his book, A Christmas Carol. His book went on to change the way we view Christmas and led to generosity among many. The movie stars Dan Stevens and Christopher Plummer. This film would be a wonderful addition to a Charles Dickens unit in literature class or a great film to show before Christmas Break.

    The Kid Who Would be King

    The Kid Who Would Be King tells the story of a modern day Arthur known as Alex. Alex happens upon Excalibur and becomes its new owner. The world's history appears doomed as the evil half-sister of King Arthur is vying for power. Alex must build his modern Round Table and fight against evil from winning control of the world. The quirky Merlin is along to help guide and teach Alex as he is on his quest for victory. The film stars Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Dean Chaumoo, Tom Taylor, Rhianna Dorris, Angus Imrie, Rebecca Ferguson, and Patrick Stewart. This could be a great lesson after studying King Arthur. It could also be a great film for the End of the Year, after testing, a lesson on teaching one to be of noble character, a last-minute lesson, or sub plans.

    Million Dollar Arm (BONUS MOVIE!)

    Million Dollar Arm is the 2014 film that follows the true story of a sports agent recruiting young men from India to play Major League Baseball. His goal was to take cricket players and use their bowling skills for pitching. JB's two recruits, Rinku and Dinesh, end up being signed by the Pittsburg Pirates only 10 months after picking up a baseball for the first time. The film stars John Hamm, Suraj Sharma, Madhur Mittal, Pitobash, Aasif Mandvi, Lake Bell, Alan Arkin, and Bill Paxton. This film would be a great addition when discussing India, a lesson in a P.E. class, and End of Year film, or last minute sub plans.
