This Handbook is the result of over thirty years of teaching and my attempt to document my teaching and intervention practices to help others.

When I had 26 students from Year 1 to Year 7 in the one classroom I knew I had to develop some efficient processes to ensure that every student made progress every day. It started with the addition algorithm and the first screener was very different from the one included in this handbook. It provided the framework I needed, however, and I gradually developed a range of sequenced curriculum resources to meet the needs of the Education Department and my students.

Now I am semi-retired and devoted to recording the programs I have used and refined over the years. This maths program follows the sequence of the Australian Curriculum and references are provided.

I advocate explicit teaching and consolidation through games. I find games motivate my students and the repetition is ideal for those students who need more time to learn.

This Handbook refers to my Intervention Mathematics Programs, Years 2 to 5. There is no need to purchase these as well if you have your own resources, but I offer them as suitable for consolidation if you don't. Certainly, I have included examples so you can copy them and make your own.

I would recommend this Handbook to Learning Support Teachers as the scope of content covers Year 1 to Year 6. As a school resource it could provide the framework for a whole of school intervention plan for Number, Place Value, Patterns and Algebra.
