For this 'fact find' word search, the facts are actually definitions, which makes it perfect for a review. This may not cover all of the features you study in class, so please see the list below to make sure this will work for you. I want you to know that before you purchase, so you are happy with your purchase.
This is not just any 'ole puzzle. It doesn't just include words. It includes facts (definitions) about nonfiction text features that your students will enjoy reading. I call it a 'fact find'. Within each fact, a word (or words) is underlined. Those are the words the students will find in the puzzle.
For example, one part says, "Text features are the parts of a reading passage or other text that stand out from the rest of the information. They are used to draw your attention to important information. They inform the reader and can help the reader better understand the text." The words 'text features' are underlined and those are the words students will find.
In this nonfiction text features themed word search puzzle, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonal. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions. They are also practicing reading skills, so if you have weaker third grade readers this may not be suitable for their ability level.
I use word searches to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work. Use it in language arts and have the kids illustrate each feature. Perfect for a sub, too.
There are many options for using this word search 'fact find'.
One option is to have students partner up and practice fluency. They can take turns reading the sentences. This can be used for a writing activity by having them elaborate and tell more about a feature or tell the page they found a feature in a book. Use it as a reading homework assignment, too. Parents can work with their child to find the words. It's perfect to use as a study guide for a features test or to use as a review before state testing. Feel free to be creative and use it in your classroom however you would like.
The words underlined in the themed fact (definition) find include:
