What educators are saying

I was initially worried this wouldn't fit in well with my Bio II class; however, it really helped reinforce the concept of macromolecules. I really liked how it helped the kids who were behind and was a fun review for those who understood the concept right away!
I use these statiions as a teaching tool in biology. I have the students team up for collaboration, and allow them to explore each station at their own pace. These are really great.

Description

A visual journey for your students to learn all about macromolecules from these stations. 27 Stations (34 total). Laminate these (or use sheet protectors) and enjoy for many years!

These organic compounds task cards are my "exhibition style" stations- students go to each station or "exhibit" to get the information. This is a great alternative to the text book for your biochemistry unit!

These stations are completely editable and come with their own student answer sheet for students to record their answers on.

These Organic Compound Task Cards focus on the structure, function, and characteristics of each type of macromolecule along with examples of each.

What's covered:

✿What is an organic compound?

✿Why study organic compounds?

✿Monomers and Polymers

✿Carbohydrates-

Structure, Function, Examples

--✿Cellulose

--✿Starch

--✿Chitin

✿Lipids-

Structure, Function, Unsaturated vs. Saturated Fats

--✿Waxes

--✿Fats

--✿Steroids

✿Nucleic Acids-

Structure, Function, Examples

--✿DNA

--✿ATP

✿Proteins

Structure (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Quaternary), Function

--✿Enzymes (Substrates, Products, Examples)

These work great as introduction or reinforcement and are super versatile (classwork, sub plan, etc.)

Student tasks include filling in the blanks, sketching, deducing answers from the information on the slide, and finding a few "exhibits" to observe!

Suggested Materials:

Station #11: boxes/ bottles of lipids (can be empty; examples might include coconut oil, olive oil, and an empty box of butter).

Station #12: graduated cylinder with oil and water (you can add food coloring).

Station #27 requires some set up: a box of small Dixie cups, a beaker of water, With a dropper, a sleeve of saltines, and a trash bin nearby for cleanup.
