Positive Affirmation Creativity Cards - Play with Dough Mat Activities for SEL

Build positive affirmations in a fun and hands-on way with these creativity cards! You can use these as brain breaks, center activities, or in a calm down area. Students read a new self-talk statement, build (or draw) the activity on the card, and then discuss it to learn and grow. With over 50 building cards, students have lots of opportunities to practice social-emotional learning skills.

Positive Affirmations

The build and draw activities are chosen to teach and practice positive self-talk phrases. For each affirmation, students will build or draw to go along with that affirmation. This provides hands-on practice and learning opportunities.

Some examples include:

• "I love who I am." Make a heart. What do you love about yourself?
• "Today is a great day." Make a sun. How can you make today great?
• "I will persevere." Make a mountain. What does it mean to persevere?
• "I am a self-starter." Make a rocket ship. What will you start today?

How It Works

• Before starting, gather the materials you want students to use to build. You can use modeling dough or any other materials you have available. Alternatively, students can also draw on paper or on whiteboards. It's up to you!
• Read the self-talk phrase.
• Read the prompt. Give students time to build or draw.
• Talk about what students created. Allow time for students to share their creations.
• Use the question to chat and discuss.

Printable and Digital Versions

This includes both printable cards and digital full-sized pages in Google Slides. You can project the full-sized version to have the entire class follow along without needing to print!
