WHAT IS PUSH-IN SPEECH THERAPY?
Push-in Speech Therapy is a type of therapy that takes place in a student’s classroom rather than in the Speech Therapist’s office.  There are various types of Push-in Speech Therapy, from pulling a student into a corner of the classroom to full collaboration where the Speech Language Pathologist has input on curriculum topics and co-teaches with the classroom teacher.

Which classroom environments are best for Push-in Speech Therapy?
I've provided Push-in Speech Therapy in the following environments:

• Self-contained classrooms in which students had profound disabilities.
• Self-contained classrooms in which students had a range of disabilities and levels of performance.
• Reverse mainstreamed classes in which up to half of the students were typical peers.
• Full inclusion classrooms with a regular education teacher in which less than half of the students had disabilities.

I LOVE providing speech services in the classroom because...

• It provides lots of opportunities for my students to generalize their skills.
• I'm able to observe my students in a natural environment.
• I see how my students interact with their peers.
• It allows me to collaborate with the teacher on possible curriculum topics.
