Race Writing Strategy Constructed Response w Passage & Prompts ELA TEST PREP

RACED CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE WORKSHOP

This workshop steps students through the entire process of writing a constructed response using the RACE + T (transitions) Strategy. A highly engaging passage is broken down into the race elements for students to see. Then, students practice building their own responses on the slides with guided instructions and examples.

Includes writing prompts for the enclosed passage, and can also be used with your own prompts for other lessons.

Students Learn To:

• Restate the question.
• Unpack the language of the question and determine how many parts are comprised.
• Use transitions and transitional phrases before and after evidence.
• Gather and cite strong supporting evidence.
• Elaborate upon the evidence given.
• Ensure that no more than 25%-30% of the the answer is quoted text. (state requirement)

GRADING TOOL and RUBRIC:

Coded Feedback cards and rubric allow you to evaluate quickly and leave pre-made feedback simply by inserting the number code.

Each card gives feedback for the common mistakes that most students make for the elements listed above. Simply leave a number code and students find the matching feedback and fix their mistakes. It is really simple, but very effective!
