Description
I don't believe in assigning participation points.
I DO believe in:
- Holding students accountable for their choices.
- Recognizing that Orchestra is a "team" activity and we all succeed or fail together.
- Teaching students how to be good rehearsers.
- Assessing students on their rehearsal skills and providing specific feedback.
Before I developed this system…
I spent my grading time trying to remember how “good” or “bad” each student had been, and agonized over how to award participation points appropriately. I worried a lot about backlash from parents if I dared to not assign full points to students.
After I developed and implemented this system…
Students and families know exactly what is expected of musicians to earn full points (5 per day). Points are based on rehearsal skills that ALL musicians work to develop (including professionals). My easy-to-use Google Form helps me to be consistent with entering notes daily, and keeps me honest when assigning points based on data. On the RARE occasion that a parent complains, I can pull up MONTHS of data on exactly what happened every day.
Included in this Bundle:
- Printable Musician and Rehearsal Skills Rubric Posters in 5 colors to mix and match
- Presentation to introduce your students to the Musicianship and Rehearsal Skills Rubric and set expectations
- A customizable Google Form to streamline data collection of your students' Musicianship and Rehearsal Skills each day.
