What educators are saying

Extremely satisfied. Each of my students contributed to the poster. What a neat way to show how we are all different yet united. So cool!
This was a great visual display for our unit on Rosa Parks. The students worked independently on their part, but it came together beautifully. I will use again in the future.

Description

Rosa Parks Collaborative Portrait Poster. This product contains two methods for making a classroom Rosa Parks collaboration poster. Use these posters for Rosa Parks Day (February 4th or December 1st), Black History Month, Women's History Month, or for any Civil Rights lessons.

The final posters make for visually engaging displays. Hang them anywhere!

• The library

• The front office

• A hallway

• Your classroom bulletin board

These posters are the perfect way to start a unit or to cap one off. They are an engaging and entertaining way for students to work together to create a large poster of Rosa Parks. They make a great classroom focal point and a lasting example of collaboration for your students.

They also make great

• sub plans

• morning work

• early finisher activities

• centers

..and more!

Recommended for any grade or discipline as there are 2 poster options available–coloring (for lower grades) and drawing (for older students/art students). Plus, there are a variety of bonus resources included in this product for early finishers or as extensions.

There are 30 pieces to the poster–each piece fitting on standard 8.5" x 11" paper.

Poster Option #1 Rosa Parks Collaborative PosterColoring

This lesson is very easy. Each student is given one section of a large mosaic poster to color in according to the instructions on each sheet. Once all sheets are colored & cut out, they are then assembled to reveal a large, approx. 35 in. x 42 in. (depending on printer settings) multi-colored mosaic/poster/mural of Rosa Parks.

Poster Option #2: Rosa Parks Collaborative PosterDrawing

This lesson is not hard but is more challenging than the coloring version in Lesson #1. In this lesson, each student will draw their grid piece using a small version of their assigned grid cell as a reference. Once the pieces are drawn and cut out, the classroom poster can be assembled. This lesson engenders a lot of cooperation among students to get all of the drawings within the individual grid cells to line up well and to produce a nice looking final (approx. 35 in. x 42 in.) poster of Rosa Parks.

The results from both options are stunning!!

BONUS Activities:

Group collaboration posters are a lot of fun and leave a lasting impression. However, students don’t get to walk away with anything tangible to show their families. I have created a variety of handouts that individual students can work on when they are finished with their poster piece. This is also very useful for early finishers.

The handouts are for various levels, so you can find one that fits your grade level. Included are:

  • Unscramble the portrait drawing.
  • Unscramble the portrait cut and paste (with two grid variations).
  • Rosa Parks coloring page.

I hope your students enjoy this collaboration poster and, no doubt, all the meaningful conversations that will come from it.
