Seeds Can Fly! and Cheese-Puff Pollination Experiments

Aligned to NGSS 2-LS2-2 & Common Core Writing Standards

Included are all the materials you need for two hands-on science experiments your students will love!

What You Get:
-Essential Questions for both experiments
-Key vocabulary cards with the word, definition and picture {words included: seed dispersal, pollination, flower, reproduction, seed and pollen}
-'How do Seeds Disperse?' Tree Map w/ teacher key
-Flow Map illustrating how small mammals help plant new seeds. *Optional activity to use with Flow Map: Each student acts as a squirrel or other small mammal. Give each student a small seed, I used sunflower seeds, to hide outside. Go back inside the classroom, wait 15 or more minutes and then go back out and see how many students can find their seeds. Mine assured me they’d all be able to find their seeds, but only 50% actually did!  This proves the point that some seeds are never found and in turn grow into plants, helping plants reproduce/survive.
-Seeds Can Fly! Experiment: Students create their own helicopter seeds and explore how the height from which they are dropped effects the distance in which they travel from the parent plant.
-Cheese-Puff Pollination Experiment: Students model pollination using Cheese-Puffs (pollen) and nectar (Starburst). Included are 2 different graphic organizers, bee bracelets, flower templates for bags or bowls, and writing paper. The writing paper can be used for a narrative piece (tell about a time you did a fun science experiment) or an expository piece (write about the process of pollination).
-Pictures of both experiments in action are included!
