Description
Looking for an interesting and engaging way to present how an author's use of setting affects plot? This complete teaching pack for teaching how setting affects conflict has everything you need to teach this skill with ease and success.
Student Experience: In this classroom-tested, interactive, photography-inspired activity, students travel around the U.S. while discussing the key element of setting and exploring how it affects plot. Students will first take notes about the skill. Then, they will explore different settings in a gallery walk to unpack how a certain setting can affect plot and even conflict. A graphic organizer and list of other texts are included for use and success after the lesson is complete! Students will be able to take the skills learned in this lesson and apply them to any text in order to successfully examine setting.
Included:
- lesson plan (editable Word format)
- lecture with examples and guided practice (editable PPT and Google)
- images for gallery walk (editable Word format)
- worksheets for practice after the lesson is complete (editable Word format)
Classroom success stories from other teachers who loved this resource:
♥ "This made my students think, which made them whiny at first, and then they surprised themselves with their ideas."
♥ "I like the variety of practice activities provided. I chose what worked best for each of my classes, as they are on different ability levels. I used this with struggling classes, on-level classes, and honors classed, with differentiation for each. I also turned this into an activity to show how other elements are connected for my honors class."
♥ "Teaching two different groups of sophomores each fall, and having one of those groups to come back to me in the spring (we are on block), I need different activities that cover the same skills. I am not much on textbooks, so I heavily rely on the internet for resources. TpT has become my new go-to, and now Julie F. has become one of top three faves. I anticipate using this with my students this fall."
♥ "Great resource! I love how it will force my students to use their imagination and think outside of the box."
♥ "This resource is very detailed and easy to use. My students loved the gallery walk!"
