What educators are saying

My students loved this unit. They were busy every day with the different activities - and of course we concluded by watching the movie and the students loved this too
You won't be disappointed! I use this with my film and lit class and there's a lot of great activities in here.

Description

This unit uses the 2001 film Shrek (the first one) starring Michael Myers and Cameron Diaz. I absolutely love this film and so do my students. It is easy, fun, and keeps them engaged while at the same time allowing for some close literary analysis. There are FIVE days of activities here, plus some additional ideas if you wish to extend the unit. The lessons are designed to last approximately 50-55 minutes each. This unit is great for those times when we need to fill in several days at the end of a unit or quarter, when we have an extended substitute, or any time we need a few days of easy lessons "just because".

This unit includes the following:

  • 4 Days of movie viewing/analysis questions with pre, during, and post viewing activities (The movie is divided into four 20-25 minute sessions.)
  • 4 Days of follow up Focus Activities for use at the end of each viewing session, including fairy tale characteristics, satire techniques, archetypes, and creative writing in the form of a newspaper article
  • A one-day body biography project as a concluding activity
  • A bonus page of allusions
  • A page of essay topics
  • A page of additional project ideas
  • Keys for most activities/handouts
