Description
Is George Ella Lyon's "Where I'm From" poem not very relatable to your students? Try this alternative model poem in the voice of "Maritza," an ESL student. This download also includes the most clear, broken-down graphic organizer imaginable to help your students construct their own poem, line by line. It includes additional graphic support for the tree metaphor at the end of the poem that can otherwise be tricky for students. Finally, use the rubric attached to make expectations clear to students from the beginning. See attached images of how to create "selfie stencils" to accompany students' poems.
