What educators are saying

My students loved this resource. I'd read a Yo Yo Ma biography first, so they were really excited to color their part of the poster.
This was an amazing activity. Not only were my students excited to see what the final picture was, but they were excited to learn more about her. Thank you for an engaging way to write biographies!

Description

Yo-Yo Ma Collaboration Portrait Poster–2 options included plus bonus materials. These art activities are intended to complement/supplement any lesson about Yo-Yo Ma, musicians, or Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations and/or activities. This inspirational poster would also be a great activity for social emotional learning or your classroom calming corner.

These poster coloring pages are a perfect calming activity. Artistic activities such as sculpting, painting, drawing, or coloring lower stress levels and promote calmness. It’s been shown to help people, kids especially, deal with challenging emotions like anxiety. Art can also help young people grow in confidence and develop social skills.

The final posters make for visually engaging displays. Hang them anywhere!

  • The library
  • The front office
  • A hallway
  • Your classroom bulletin board

These posters are the perfect way to start a unit or wrap one up. They are an engaging and an entertaining way for students to work together to create a large poster of Yo-Yo Ma. They make a great classroom focal point and a lasting example of collaboration for your students.

They also make great...

  • sub plans
  • morning work
  • early finisher activities
  • centers

..and more!

Recommended for any grade or discipline as there are 2 poster options available–coloring (for lower grades) and drawing (for older students/art students).

Plus, there are various bonus activities included in this product for early finishers or as extensions.

Resource Details

Poster Option #1: Collaboration Poster: Coloring

 **GREAT FOR ANY AGE**

This lesson is very easy. Each student is given one section of a large collaboration poster to color according to the instructions on each sheet. Once all sheets are colored and cut out, they are then assembled to reveal a large, inspirational, collaboration mosaic/poster/mural of Yo-Yo Ma!

Poster Details:

  • There are 30 pieces.
  • Each piece fits on a regular 8.5" x 11" piece of paper.
  • The final poster is approx. 45" x 37" depending on your printer settings.
  • You will need markers, crayons, or colored pencils in green, purple, blue, and pink.

Poster Option #2: Collaboration Poster: Drawing

** Ideal for middle school, high school students, and art students**

This lesson is not hard but is more challenging than the coloring version in lesson #1. In this variation, each student will draw their grid piece using a small version of their assigned grid cell for reference. Once the pieces are drawn and cut out, you can assemble the classroom poster. This lesson engenders cooperation among students to get all of the drawings within the individual grid cells to line up nicely and produce a nice-looking final poster of Yo-Yo Ma. This project is all about working together, and it's all about your students. As the teacher, you don't have to worry about anything—except for some cheerleading and encouragement!

BONUS Activities:

I have created a variety of bonus activities that individual students can work on when they are finished with their poster piece(s).

The handouts are for various levels, so you can find one that fits your grade level.

Included are:

  • unscramble the portrait drawing
  • unscramble the portrait cut and paste (with two grid variations)
  • Yo-Yo Ma coloring page.

I hope these extra materials are helpful to you.
